Family Photo Outfits: There are tons of articles out there that will tell you WHAT to wear but some of you may need a DO NOT list…
The options for family photo outfits on the DO WEAR list are endless…lets just go over some guidelines on what NOT to wear!
1. DO NOT wear Matching Outfits.
Trust me, I am an offender. Any Color Matching Shirts & Khaki Bottoms.
This used to be “the thing” but it’s outdated and I’m sure it doesn’t fit your personality well.
This also applies to little ones! Even if they are twins or close in age, each of your tiny humans have a unique personality – embrace that!
What to do instead
Coordinate! If it matches anyone else, don’t wear it! Think about it like you’re going to prom…you and your date didn’t wear entire matching outfits, you coordinated colors and styles. Think about what you might wear to a bridal or baby shower.
2. DO NOT try something new, drastic or dramatic.
Again, OFFENDER! Right here. I had my hair done for my engagement photos, guess what we did – re-took our engagement photos. We opted for better coordinating outfits and I did my hair & make up like I do every day!
Don’t do anything crazy with your hair or make-up. Chances are you won’t feel like yourself during or after your session!
What to do instead
Think about how you and your family see you everyday – eh never mind (yoga pants & no bra? me too)….How about date night! What kind of hair and make up would you do when going to a nice restaurant for your birthday dinner? What kind of outfit would you wear to go out to a nice dinner on vacation? If you choose to buy something, make sure you feel comfortable in it and that it’s something you would wear at some point in your life.
3. DO NOT stress
guess what… If you show up and you have a matching outfit or two, no biggie. It’s just a guideline, we are really trying to avoid disconnect and outdated matching themes.
I just want your session to represent you and your family. These photos will be displayed on your walls, in frames and a photo album. I want them to feel like you so everyday when you look at it – you KNOW thats you.
